Actual synopsis: After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose “help” quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.

I loved watching this movie, regardless of how cheesy it is but that did not matter. I love the chemistry between characters and the way that the costumes are so expressive of the characters’s personalities without being a ton of talking about them that there is no time to spare. The art is strange when it comes to stop motion but that adds to the feeling that there is another world that the characters are in. I think my favorite scene is where Barbara is in the closet, rips her face off, and is not noticed. the character after whom the movie is made is creative, as can be expected from Micheal Keaton. It is over the top, hilarious, and creative. The only problems I have with it are the animation choices for Betelgeuse’s snake-like form and the sand monsters in the ghost world. I would have liked to see more of the world of the dead or the waiting room.
Overall, I definitely recommend this movie for Halloween!
